Reggae was not Dead

In an press release by Billboard Publicity Wire, there are expressions of reggae is not dead!!.. and I'm saying who said it was? The fact that dancehall appear to be more popular does not mean that reggae is approaching extinction. Shabba Ranks, Beenieman and Sean Paul have been more popular than the traditional reggae Grammy winners such as Burning Spear, Lee Scratch Perry amongst others. It is the younger generation who are more susceptible to dancehall and taking it far, they did the same for reggae 40 years ago in making it hip and popular.
Reggae was not dead, there have always been sufficient recording artiste, reggae shows and good albums put out by various reggae artiste.. this year alone have seen quite a number of acts being released. Buju USA tour look dead yes.. with his problems with those folks.. but reggae still is and always have been alive and well.
The 18 Karat Reggae Series that was featured in the article consist of various artiste, none of which are quite popular at the moment, at least not in the land where reggae was born, but have some good material on that track list.
The current torch bearers are good, Queen Ifrica is one that really stands out.. her latest album is one that should be a collectors item for reggae fans. Taurus Riley, Jah Cure, Sizzla and Buju Banton himself all released albums this year and all got good reviews. With the so called economic downturn, sales may not be what they ought to be.. but its not reggae alone that is suffering...
