Buju.. more popularly known around the world for his conraversal song "boom bye bye" which was made some 17 years ago.. and of more recent his conversion to rastafarianism and now singing culture tunes. ..
The DJ has been in the news lately for some unpopular utterances that have drawn some attention to him from persons around the reggae music world... Buju recently dissed Barrak Obama at a stage show in a club in New York calling the president a .. p*ssy.
Now there is more controversy from the DJ when he said that "Bob Marley is not the greatest Jamaican Reggae Musician" at his album launch a few weeks ago. The DJ who came under some heat for his statements has clarified his comments since then saying the comment were taken out of context.. but what was said still lingers in the ears of some.
Buju was indicating that the reggae music world had put Bob on such a high pedistal that it has stifled other great reggae music stars in the past and perhaps will continue stifle great reggae stars to come. One of Bob sons Julian Marley had responded to Buju's comments and expressed that thanks should be given to his dad for what he has done for the music... and that Bob has put the industry at a level for all to use as a target.
It seems to me though that deep down Buju was saying the same thing that eek-a-mouse uttered some time ago.. when he said that it was because of his colour why he cant sell any of his tunes.. and thus why sean paul and shaggy along with the great Bob has done well.
So I dont know ... you judge for yourself and make the comparisons... Bob music is really good yes mixed with ausome promotion at the time, but were the others that bad .. Bob has sold over 20 million records and still out sells the likes of Mavado and Jah Cure today... it was indicated that the average sales for reggae albums globally is in the region of 5000 copies.. hmm really meagre
.. it appear as if Bob took all the disposable income and the rest of the music is too mediocre for consumption.. lol
