I hear the authorities in the states saying that the recession might end in 2009. Well that sounds good.. and this means that 2009 needs to hurry up cause its affecting everything, except perhaps the Amazon peeps.The dancehall industry is feeling the pinch here and there .. some perhaps don't feel the effects of it yet.. a show that could have sold 2000 more tickets ..didn't because man dont have money fi buy bread.
There a few things happening in the local dancehall arena, not that artiste getting robbed is anything new..as with the recent case with Sophia Brown who was robbed of some US$2,000 at the Norman Manley International Airport. The 'poor lady' was left with $51 when she dipped in her purse after arriving in LA, then attempted to pay for something there..and was shocked to discover that she was embezzled of the lofty sum. Certainly never a good thing to happen to any in or out of recession.
The the veteran artiste called Risto Benji had a totally different incident from Ms Brown.. he wasn't robbed, its alleged that he actually robbed a lady of a her cell phone.. my God.. !! the DJ known for is popular tune in the 80's "passport buddy" gave the lady a ride on a bike for a fee (ie Robot motorcycle) last week in Spanish Town. Risto took the woman to another location where he tried to relieve her of her hand bag, he was unsuccessful but ended up with her cellphone, she made an alarm and the feds arrested the Rasta man....
what a thing one of my favourite money tune dj.. i was so disappointed to hear this ... time really hard to rass ..lol
Its not only some of the artiste feeling the pinch in all shape and forms, promoters are also cancelling some of their shows. In a recent Observer report it was indicated that many promoters have to be cutting the number of sound systems used and other inputs and barely breaking even...
No doubt there would lessons learnt here... the desperate actions by some i suspect will continue... for those who are not too bad, don't smile, watch out fi Karma!!
Anyway... the artiste them must have sense... you want to tell me nobody learnt from MC Hammer..?
